Daisy's Road to Westminster: A Canadian Poodle's Path to Glory

February 06, 2025

This February, the Westminster Dog Show in New York City is not just a major event for the global dog community – it's a moment of pride for Canada. Representing British Columbia, Daisy, a Miniature Poodle, will be making her mark at one of the world’s most famous dog shows. Her journey to this point has been nothing short of remarkable, and it’s an incredible story of passion, perseverance, and the power of community.

From the beginning

Daisy proudly hails from Lyric Poodles, a renowned kennel operated by Lynne Galloway of British Columbia. Under Lynne’s expert care, Daisy has blossomed into the exceptional show dog she is today. Lyric Poodles is known for its commitment to breeding top-quality Poodles with exceptional temperament and health, and Daisy is a perfect example of that dedication. Lynne’s passion for the breed and her years of experience have been instrumental in shaping Daisy’s success, and the Lyric Poodles legacy continues to shine through her accomplishments on the show circuit.

From a young poodle to a rising star

Daisy’s journey to Westminster began the moment she entered the world. From her first show at just six months old, it was clear she had a natural gift. She impressed judges with her poise and confidence, and her owners – Allison Chicorli and her mother Pam – knew they had something special. In fact, Allison jokes that Daisy was “pre-stacked,” a term used in dog shows to describe how a dog positions itself naturally for evaluation. Daisy had it all: elegance, grace, and an undeniable presence.

Daisy quickly earned both Canadian and American championships, but her journey didn't stop there. In 2024, Daisy reached a pivotal milestone when she attended the prestigious Poodle Club of America National Specialty in Missouri. With hundreds of Poodles competing, Daisy’s star shone brightly, leading to an unforgettable moment – a win in her variety. After this success, Daisy’s team made the decision to work with professional handler Ethan, setting their sights on an even bigger goal: an invitation to Westminster.

Climbing the ladder to Westminster

The road to Westminster is not easy, and the competition is fierce. However, with Ethan’s guidance, Daisy’s results speak for themselves. Over the course of 14 shows, Daisy racked up impressive wins, including three Best in Shows, four Reserve Best in Shows, and multiple Group placements. She also secured a National Best of Variety, making her one of the top Poodles in the country. It was the perfect preparation for Westminster, where she is sure to face tough competition, but with Daisy’s track record, the sky’s the limit.

A heartfelt journey with family and community support

For Allison, the best part of Daisy’s journey has been sharing it with her mother, Pam. Together, they’ve traveled to shows, cheered for Daisy, and experienced the highs and lows of the dog show world. Along the way, they’ve found unwavering support from the Canadian dog show community, who have cheered Daisy on from afar and offered their assistance at every turn.

A standout memory for Allison was Daisy’s first group placement in Canada, a moment that truly highlighted her talent. But it's not just about the wins – it's the community of dog lovers who have made this journey even more special. From local dog shows to international stages, the connections Daisy and her family have built along the way have made this experience unforgettable.

Daisy’s Sparkle

What makes Daisy stand out in her breed? While she meets the Poodle standard, it’s her joy and enthusiasm in the ring that truly sets her apart. Daisy’s excitement is infectious, and she “sparkles” when she steps into the show ring. Her distinctive look – an English Saddle clip – has earned her the nickname “the lady in pants,” and it’s one of the qualities that makes her so memorable among competitors.

As she prepares for Westminster, Daisy is receiving top-notch care and attention in California, where Ethan and his partner, Olivia, are ensuring her coat is in perfect condition and her show skills are sharp. It’s all part of the intense preparation for one of the world’s biggest dog shows.

Bringing British Columbia to the world stage

Daisy’s presence at Westminster is a source of immense pride for her family, as well as for the Canadian dog community. For Allison, the opportunity to bring a piece of British Columbia to such a prestigious event is a dream come true. The outpouring of support from Canadians has been heartwarming, and the team is excited to showcase Daisy’s talents on the world stage.

“Cheer loudly from home,” says Allison. “Let’s make sure the judge can hear Canada behind her!”

Encouraging others to join the dog world

For those inspired by Daisy’s journey and considering getting involved in the dog show world, Allison has some advice: start by attending a local show and connecting with experienced breeders and handlers. Handling classes are an excellent way to learn and network, and there are countless dog sports to explore. The dog world is a welcoming community, and Allison encourages everyone to dive in and experience the joy it brings.

As Daisy heads to Westminster, she’s not just representing her breed – she’s carrying the hopes and support of her fellow Canadians, proving that with dedication, passion, and a little bit of sparkle, anything is possible.

Stay tuned for more updates on Daisy’s journey to Westminster and join us in cheering her on from home!
