Finding a New Way of Thinking

Changing Approach to IT Projects

Quite often there is cynicism surrounding IT projects and there is a reason for that. Although technology has evolved over decades and now enables us to do so many things efficiently, we sometimes lose sight of what it’s there for in the first place. Technology is a tool to serve people - not the other way around. This is the thinking that drives us for the IT4You project.

New Way of Thinking

It’s About You

We’ve all been there. Compare that feeling of finding the perfect tool to do the job versus trying to make the job fit the tool. Which one causes frustration? You can go in the hardware store and buy a screwdriver to do a job but if what you want to do is hammer a nail, it’s going to take a lot longer and the job will be more difficult. Chances are that you won’t do nearly as good a job as you would have it you had used a hammer for the task.
The same applies to technology and systems. There is a lot to choose from out there but if you take the time to identify what you need it to do for you, it’ll be a lot easier to be sure you’ve got the right tool to get the job done. Plus you’ll have the added advantage of doing it right the first time and in less time. No frustration and everyone wins.

Inverting the Pyramid

The pyramid illustration is a great way to show how we are prioritizing a project as complex as IT4You. The biggest chunk of time and effort is in finding out exactly what the staff and members need. It’s filled with details. We’re asking ‘what if…’. It’s the front line people who know what is working and who often have ideas on how to make it work better. Getting that information is the best way we know to make sure that we end up building a better mousetrap.
