Full Results PDF

Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of our Top Dogs.  If there are any corrections or missing titles, please review your records against the CKC’s published results and send the trial information in question to [email protected].

Congratulations to our Top Dogs in the 2024 Obedience category! We’re proud to celebrate the hard work and dedication of these incredible dogs and handlers.

Obedience competitions test a dog’s ability to follow commands reliably and consistently. Dogs perform a series of exercises, including heeling, sit and down stays, and retrieving, demonstrating their training, control, and responsiveness to their handler.

#1 – GMOTCH RCH Gorsebrook Solaia Zen Mindfull RMX SH VB ETD WCX

Call Name: Phoebe
Labrador Retriever
Date of Birth: January 31, 2018
Breeder(s): Leslie Grant and Sharon Harris, Gorsebrook Labradors
Owner(s): Louise Falconer
Handler(s): Louise Falconer

Phoebe the Labrador Retriever had an outstanding 2024, marking a year of hard work, resilience, and a deep bond between dog and handler. From February to November, Phoebe and her owner/handler, Louise Falconer, travelled across Canada and the United States, overcoming numerous logistical challenges to achieve their goal of being ranked among the top 10 obedience dogs in the country. Phoebe’s unwavering focus and eagerness to perform in unfamiliar venues made each competition a success, showcasing the unique connection she shares with Louise.

Throughout the year, Phoebe earned impressive titles, including her UDX, Obedience Master 1, and Versatility titles in the United States. These achievements led to invitations to prestigious events, such as the AKC National Obedience Championship in Ohio and the AKC Obedience Classic Masters Class in Florida. Phoebe’s accomplishments highlight her dedication, as well as the commitment of Louise to excellence in obedience.

Along the way, Phoebe and Louise were supported by a community of remarkable people, from competitors to judges and stewards, whose expertise made this journey possible. Above all, Louise expresses deep gratitude for her dog's constant desire to please, her unwavering effort, and the love they share. Phoebe's recognition as one of the Canadian Kennel Club’s Top Dogs in Obedience is a well-deserved honour for this exceptional team.

#2 – GMOTCH GCHB Eternity’s Vance

Call Name: Vance
Belgian Shepherd Dog
Date of Birth: September 7, 2019
Breeder(s): Jesper and Karin Andersson, Eternity Belgians
Owner(s): Julie Skuba
Handler(s):Skyler Sinnock, Connie Krohn, and Sheena Rafferty

It is truly an honour to be among the top Obedience Teams in Canada. Thank you, Vance! You always strive to be the best you can be and certainly make me look good along the way. Vance came to me in 2019 from Eternity Belgians in Sweden when he was only 10 weeks old. Since then, he has earned his Grand Champion Bronze in Conformation and Grand Master Obedience Trial Champion titles.

Vance loves to trial, especially for the extra special treats available only at trials. However, he also believes trials need to be fun. If I get too serious in the ring, Vance will try to remedy this by barking at me or jumping up to nip at my arm while heeling. Belgian Shepherds are deeply devoted to family and close friends, and they are highly aware of everything around them. As a trainer, it’s important to find a balance between getting their attention and letting them take in their environment. A gentle, fun approach works best for this breed.

In 2024, Vance became a seasoned traveller. He confidently strides into hotel elevators and claims the bed as his own. When it’s time for food, I’m there, holding his dish until he’s finished. Whoever said, “Dogs have Masters, Cats have Staff,” has never met Vance. Over the years, I’ve been mentored by wonderful trainers, with special influences from Bob Bailey’s Chicken Camps and the Art and Science of Animal Training Conference. A focus on Learning Theory has shaped my approach and helps me spot training errors.

To new trainers: Have fun! Never stop learning and pay attention – you can learn so much from your dog.

#3 – GMOTCH Tanbark’s Cutting Edge RN

Call Name: Blitz
Golden Retriever
Date of Birth: September 17, 2016

Handler(s): Rose Apollonio

This is Blitz’s 5th time ranking in the Top 10 All-Breed in Canada. I am thrilled to have accomplished placement in the Top 3 in 2024. It represents a year filled with hard work, much travel, many ups and downs, and the relationship of trust and understanding that has developed between myself and Blitz.
Blitz is my second Golden Retriever from Tanbark. He has a very outgoing personality, loves to work, play, and do anything that involves being with me. He’s a great companion and I am lucky to have him.

I would also like to congratulate all the other Top 10 Teams on their 2024 placements and achievements.

The Canadian Kennel Club is thrilled to celebrate Tuck, a Golden Retriever whose incredible achievements in 2024 secured him a spot among CKC’s Top Dogs. Tuck’s accomplishments reflect not only his exceptional training but also the traits that make Golden Retrievers such cherished companions. #5 – MOTCH GCH RGCH Manitou Radiant Featherz TDCH SH CGN SDIN WCX RMX2 RAE VS

Call Name: Aoife
Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
Date of Birth: February 12, 2019
Breeder(s): Cindy Lindemer and Roger Wirkkunen (Manitou Tollers)
Owner(s): Shelly Campbell and Mark Antonini
Handler(s):Shelly Campbell

The Canadian Kennel Club is thrilled to celebrate Aoife, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, whose outstanding performances in 2024 earned her a spot as a CKC Top Dog in Obedience. Ranked #5 All-Breed, Aoife had an incredible year, excelling across multiple disciplines. At the NSDTR Club of Canada’s National Specialty in British Columbia, she shone in the WCX Field Test, dominated in Open and Utility Obedience (earning High in Trial), and impressed in the Conformation Ring, receiving an Award of Merit against 108 entries. She also became the first female Toller to win the ‘Fair Dinkum’ Versatility Award with a perfect 12/12 score and passed three Master Hunt tests despite a short field season.

Aoife’s success reflects the strong bond with her owner-handler-trainer, Shelly Campbell, who takes immense pride in their teamwork. Keeping training fresh with cross-discipline exercises helped Aoife stay engaged, especially during the intense back-to-back trials in late 2024. Their journey wasn’t without challenges, including the heartbreaking loss of another young dog earlier in the year. But with the support of the dog sport community, they pushed forward.

Making the CKC Top Dogs list was never the plan, but as the season progressed, it became an exciting reality. As the first Toller to break into CKC’s Top Ten All-Breed Obedience, Aoife has set the bar high. The CKC congratulates Aoife and Shelly on this incredible achievement and looks forward to seeing what they accomplish next!

Owner(s): Leanne Tucker
Handler(s):Leanne Tucker

In 2024, Rip, a talented Golden Retriever, showcased his breed’s potential with outstanding success in obedience and fieldwork.
