Notice to Conformation Judges

This Notice is to inform all Conformation judges that the Disqualification/Excusal Form has been updated.  It now includes more information with respect to Withholding Awards and Lack of Merit.

Many judges have expressed that is it not clear when this form must be used.  We trust that the information that follows will help to clarify this issue.
 
If a dog is Disqualified for any reason, the form must be completed.  A copy must be provided to the handler of the dog and the Event Secretary to be submitted with the results.

If a dog is Excused for any reason, the form must be completed.  A copy must be provided to the handler of the dog and the Event Secretary to be submitted with the results.

If an award is being withheld for Lack of Merit or any other reason, the form must be completed.  A copy must be provided to the handler of the dog and the Event Secretary to be submitted with the results.
 
All of this must be documented in in the Judge’s Book with the usual abbreviations of DQ, EX, WH/LOM.
 
Please be reminded regarding Section 14.1.3 of the Conformation Show Rules:
 
“When a judge withholds an award for lack of merit, or disqualifies or excuses a dog, the reason must be recorded in the judge’s book.  The judge must also fill out the appropriate form.  The owner or handler of the dog must be advised of said reason and must be provided with the yellow copy of the form before leaving the ring.  A dog that has been disqualified shall not receive any ribbons, prize or award.  In such cases, the CKC may order that any previous awards be cancelled and all ribbons and/or prizes be returned.”
 
Further, in accordance with the Conformation Show Rules, Section 4.4.9, a first-place award is withheld, a form must be completed for each dog and a copy provided to the handler and the Event Secretary to be submitted with the results.
 
“When a first-place award is withheld, all further awards in that class are automatically withheld.”
 
Lastly, if an exhibitor enters the ring and requests to be excused, it must be properly excused by the judge and the form must be completed.  A reason must be provided.
 
While some Event Secretaries may still have old stock of the form, please ensure that it is used correctly.  The updated forms will be included in club supply orders starting in June.
