The Board of Directors of the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) encourages active participation by the general membership of the Club and requests submissions from interested parties for the position of the Honourary Veterinarian. The Board is pleased to announce changes to this position expanding the scope and visibility of our Honourary Veterinarian in support of a higher public profile for the CKC. Role of the Honourary Veterinarian:
Each year a member of the Canadian Kennel Club shall be appointed as Honourary Veterinarian of the Club. The term of such appointment shall be for a period of twelve (12) months beginning on April 1st of the year of the appointment and ending on March 31st of the following year.
The successful candidate should share the principles and values of the CKC and will hold an ex officio position on the Medical and Genetics Committee, with broader responsibilities to; act as spokesperson on related CKC issues (cropping and docking, canine health issues, genetically inherited diseases, etc.), provide student seminars at Canadian Veterinary Colleges as arranged by staff, and meet quarterly with CVMA President and with Provincial Associations as arranged. As this new mandate evolves additional tasks related to pertinent needs could be assumed.
The members of the Board shall nominate veterinarians whom they believe espouse The Canadian Kennel Club's position and values and who can act in an ambassadorial role with respect to Canadian Kennel Club issues. Such nominations shall be forwarded to Head Office in sufficient time to include them on the March agenda. Each nomination shall include a summary outlining the background of the nominee and the reasons why the Board member feels that this person should be bestowed with this honour.
The Board, at the Board meeting associated with the Annual General Meeting, shall vote for the nominees by secret ballot. The name of the successful nominee shall be announced by the Chair at the Annual General Meeting.
Specific Criteria: The successful candidate must be an active CKC Member who is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. .
Regular Term of Service:One (1) year term from appointment by the Board at the Annual General Meeting.
