On May 9, 2012, during a clause-by-clause review of Bill 16 by the Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills, Liberal Party representatives elected not to support the six proposed amendments to the current Breed Specific Legislation in Ontario—legislation originally enacted by the provincial Liberal government August 29, 2005. As stressed by MPP Randy Hillier on his Riding Association website, www.bringbackthebulls.com, “This is a serious concern,” as the lack of Liberal support for Bill 16 could “suggest that the Liberal Government will not advance this bill to final reading. By not advancing the Bill, the Liberal Party will effectively defeat this bill.”
“Despite this disappointing turn of events,” says Sonny Allinson, CKC Manager of Marketing and Communications, “we ask that the public and CKC members continue to speak out against BSL in favour of Bill 16 by contacting their local MPP—especially if they are Liberal.”
