The Canadian Kennel Club is pleased to announce the top 10 CKC-registered breeds for 2011. Once again, one of CKC’s “Living Legends” and one of Canada’s indigenous breeds, the Labrador Retriever, which hails from Newfoundland, leads the pack—for the twelfth consecutive year! There is no denying the popularity of this versatile breed from the Sporting Group.
Following closely behind are familiar contenders: from the Herding Group, the German Shepherd Dog in the second spot and from the Sporting Group, the ever popular Golden Retriever in third place.
Overall, there is very little change to the top ten most popular 2011 CKC-registered breeds, over last year. The top six breeds remain the same as 2010, but this year, the Bernese Mountain Dog unseats the Boxer, taking the 7th spot, while the Boxer sits at a respectable number 8.
For registrations by group, the 2011 results show that the Sporting Group continues to be the most popular group, followed by Working, Herding, and the increasingly popular Toys.
A complete list of dog and litter registrations by Group for 2009 - 2011 is available via the member website in the April 2012 Kennel and Bench.
